I’m Tusar. I’m 24.
Most people see a finished kurta on a hanger. I see the karigar’s hands that made it.

My story didn’t begin in a showroom. At 19, I stepped into the back lanes of Burra Bazar, Kolkata — one of India’s oldest fabric markets — and started learning from the ground up. Not as a buyer. As a student.

I spent years inside workshops watching master karigars turn raw fabric into something quietly extraordinary. Thread by thread. Stitch by stitch. That world taught me a word I’ve never forgotten:

bariki — the fine invisible detail that makes someone stop and look twice.

We started from a small 140 sq ft space with no marketing, just honest product and word of mouth. Slowly, orders started reaching us from across India — and then from the USA, Australia, Dubai, Canada, and Bangladesh. Retailers and wholesalers came looking for something they couldn’t easily find anymore:

authentic Kolkata craftsmanship without luxury markups.

And everywhere, one sentence kept repeating:

“Bhaiya, kuch alag dikhao.”

That became our north star.

But something never felt right to me. The karigar’s work was reaching customers through layers of middlemen, each adding prices but not value. The people who truly deserved this craft were either overpaying for it — or never discovering it at all.

So we decided to do things differently.

No unnecessary middle layers.
No artificial luxury pricing.
No mass production.

Today, bariki studio works closely with skilled karigars and trusted manufacturing partners across Kolkata to create limited designs in small batches — usually just 40–60 pieces across all of India.

Because exclusivity shouldn’t belong only to luxury brands.

Our pieces are priced between ₹399–₹3,499 not because we compromise on quality, but because great craftsmanship should feel accessible.
